Dave Roberts Gives Dodgers Updates on Glasnow, Hernández, Díaz

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

With only four games remaining before the All-Star break, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts offered updates on a handful of players on the Injured List ahead of Wednesday’s decisive rubber match with the Colorado Rockies. Since the Dodgers kicked off their final home stand of the first half, Tyler Glasnow has been gradually increasing his throwing, taking a significant step in his rehab by tossing his first bullpen session prior to Tuesday’s game. While this is encouraging, Glasnow remains a long way from advancing further in his recovery. “I think he feels good. I haven’t heard anything else. But I haven’t heard much of a progression either,” Roberts told reporters on the Bleed Los Podcast. Glasnow moved from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL on June 6.
The most notable development has been the marked improvement in Kiké Hernández’s return from injury. Hernández tore his left oblique just two games away from rejoining the lineup after elbow surgery in the off-season, leaving the Dodgers prepared to be without him for an extended stretch. According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the team now expects Hernández to be back before July ends. His rehab has progressed nicely, as he has continued fielding ground balls and has even participated in batting practice during Edwin Díaz’s live throwing sessions. The next step for Hernández would be a rehab assignment, but Roberts intends to wait until Hernández’s IL window closes, which is 20 days from now, before sending him out. “I would assume at some point soon,” Roberts said regarding the start of Hernández’s rehab assignment. “I just don’t know how much time he wants to spend in the minors. He’s taken live ABs and he looks really good.”
On the topic of Edwin Díaz, Díaz has logged two live throwing sessions to hitters. During Tuesday’s session, Roberts noted that the ball came out of Díaz’s hand well, though commanding his pitches was a work in progress. Díaz currently sits at a fastball velocity of 94-95 mph, according to Roberts. Previously, Roberts indicated that Díaz would be sent to Arizona during the All-Star break to resume his throwing progression. As of now, the next move for the Dodgers’ newest reliever remains undetermined. “I’m not sure, as we sit here on Wednesday, when his next throwing session will be. My guess would be Sunday or something like that,” Roberts said.
