​  ​​​     Jun. 11—The last time Dayton faced Maikel Miralles on May 20, the Dragons scored five runs in the first and eight in the second as part of a 22-8 win.Dayton faced Miralles again Wednesday, June 10, and he appeared to have turned things around. Through four shutout innings, he was producing his best outing since the home opener for the Fort Wayne TinCaps.Then Alfredo Duno found his swing and the floodgates opened again.The top prospect in the Cincinnati Reds organization helped break the game open in the fifth inning as the Dragons won 14-2 to pull within one game of first place Great Lakes.With two runners on, Duno smashed an 0-1 breaking pitch thrown down the heart of the plate into deep left field. It hit directly next to the clock that sits roughly a few feet below the scoreboard and ricocheted directly back onto the field.”Started to make them throw pitches and make them stay over the plate,” Dragons manager Julio Morillo said. “Then, you know, Duno hits one off the scoreboard. So that was good.”Duno had a rough road trip last week in Grand Rapids against West Michigan. Even though he had two home runs, he went 3-for-26 overall at the plate with 14 strikeouts.The home run Wednesday not only jump-started the offense as a whole, but also a successful evening for himself.He hit a first pitch double down the third base line in his next at-bat. He later came home to score while performing some acrobatics to step over relief pitcher Isaiah Lowe guarding the plate.Duno raced home after a wild pitch grounded itself near the backstop. He had to hop over Lowe as he laid in the dirt trying unsuccessfully to pick the throw from catcher Lamar King Jr. Duno went back and touched home to score the run while the TinCups did not pursue the out attempt further.Duno followed that up with an excuse-me single as he sent a check swing blooper into right to complete his night. He went 4-for-6 and scored three times.Peyton Stovall also had a stellar 4-for-4 night with a game-high three RBIs. He hit three doubles — the third being an opposite field shot hitting off the top of the elevated portion of the wall in left center — before getting a triple in the eighth after the TinCups unsuccessfully attempted to claim the ball was out of play underneath its bullpen bench in foul territory.That performance backs up his two-hit, one-homer game on Tuesday, June 9 for Stovall, who was hitting .227 coming into Wednesday’s game.”He’s been working really hard on, like, his stance and making sure he swings at the pitches he can do damage with,” Morillo said.”Peyton is just a really interesting player. He takes good at-bats, he plays good defense at second.
