​The upcoming NBA season is going to be a fascinating one in terms of reshuffling the paradigm of both conferences – with the Phoenix Suns certainly being part of that. The Suns are seeking to take advantage of a seemingly weakened Pacific Division, although not everyone believes that Phoenix’s path to doing so is particularly clear. Sam Quinn of CBS Sports – for example – went out on a limb to state that the Los Angeles Clippers are in a better situation moving forward in comparison to the Suns. This comes even in light of the five first-round draft picks being stripped from the franchise by the NBAQuinn’s assessment that the Clippers have a better future rests in the fact that they reside in a bigger market, have control of “better” draft picks on the market, and don’t have Bradley Beal’s massive salary still on the book. While all of these are reasonable arguments, the Clippers seem to be on a road towards completely resetting. There are questions surrounding whether head coach Tyronn Lue is going to remain committed to the franchise. There’s a real chance that trading point guard Darius Garland is in the best interest of the organization as well. As far as the Suns go, the franchise has a head coach in Jordan Ott, who is entrenched as the leader of the franchise long-term. Believe it or not, the Suns also roster a higher volume of promising players under 25. Phoenix rosters second-year center Khaman Maluach, rookie Koa Peat, and wing Rasheer Fleming – among others.Los Angeles is largely banking on rookies Keaton Wagler and Baba Miller, with third-year forward Gradey Dick holding some promise as well. Perhaps the most significant factor that swings the pendulum towards Phoenix is ownership. Franchise governor Mat Ishbia is fully able to carry out his duties, unlike Steve Ballmer. He also has full trust in the Suns’ front office to execute a clear vision on the future. Los Angeles is hamstrung for the next year while multiple executives are forced to be away from the team. While Los Angeles’ future isn’t necessarily as bleak as some would make it out to be, Phoenix is certainly in a stronger spot at this moment. Expect this trend to continue showing on the court and in the standings over the next several seasons.Until then, the Suns are roughly three weeks away from opening training camp.
