​AJ Foyt Racing has filled the first of its two open seats for the 2027 IndyCar season. Dennis Hauger has signed a multiyear contract to join AJ Foyt Racing, the team announced Wednesday.After winning IndyCar’s Rookie of the Year award over Mick Schumacher and Caio Collet, Hauger is moving from Dale Coyne Racing to AJ Foyt Racing. The Norwegian driver will get a second year in IndyCar, which wasn’t a guarantee when the season ended Sept. 6. Rather than being retained by Dale Coyne Racing – where he finished 22nd in the championship – Hauger was chosen by team president Larry Foyt to pilot the No. 14 Chevrolet.”I’m really excited about it,” Hauger said in a news release. “Larry and I have had some very good conversations about the team and where they want to go. I’ve learned a lot in my first two years racing in America, but I still feel like there is a lot more for me to learn and accomplish in IndyCar. This team has so much history in this sport, but what intrigues me even more was hearing about the future and what they’re building now. I want to work hard with everyone there and see how far we can take it.”Hauger came to the United States in 2025 and won the championship in IndyCar’s top support series, Indy NXT. He got his first IndyCar shot with Dale Coyne Racing, with his rights being on loan from Andretti Global. When Andretti Global re-signed pending free agent Marcus Ericsson in August, the 23-year-old Hauger became available to negotiate an IndyCar future with any team.”Dennis has accomplished a lot for someone who is only 23,” Foyt said. “Every time he’s moved into something new, he’s adapted quickly and he’s won. Coming over here and winning in Indy NXT as a rookie certainly got everyone’s attention, and then we watched how he progressed through his rookie season in IndyCar.”The move puts Santino Ferrucci’s future with AJ Foyt Racing in jeopardy. Ferrucci has driven the No. 14 entry for the last four seasons; he was teammates with Collet (No. 4 car) this year. Ferrucci finished 17th in the IndyCar standings this year, his worst finish since 2023, his first year with the team. With one seat still open, a team spokesperson would not confirm that AJ Foyt Racing isn’t bringing Ferrucci back. AJ Foyt Racing has team options for 2027 on both Ferrucci and Collet’s contracts.Homes For Our Troops will remain the primary sponsor on the No. 14 car, which indicates that the sponsorship was tied to the team and car rather than Ferrucci. AJ Foyt Racing expects to announce a second full-time driver in the coming weeks.”We’ve spent a lot of time talking about where we want this team to go,” Foyt said. “We’re investing in our people, our technical side and our commercial program because we want to continue moving forward.
