(Photo by Justin Edmonds/Getty Images) | Getty Images The Denver Broncos have announced that they have waived running back Cody Schrader today. Schrader was claimed off waivers by Denver in December and signed a futures contract in January after brief stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans. He was an undrafted free agent out of Missouri where he rushed for 1,627 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023 and finished eighth in Heisman voting.The running back position is one the team needed a bit more consistency from in 2026, which we thought Schrader could add a little more competition in camp when we wrote about him over the summer:I know the team needs more production from the running back position. That makes this the perfect opportunity for a young, hungry player who’s likely running out of chances to make it.I personally liked what I saw from Schrader in preseason. While I don’t think he can challenge Tyler Badie for a regular season roster spot if an injury occurs, I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing him on the practice squad this season.
