Guilford Flames scored five against Cardiff Devils en route to their first win of the season [John Uwins]Guildford Flames thumped Cardiff Devils 5-1 to secure their first Challenge Cup win of the 2026-27 season.Devils beat Flames 3-1 in their opening fixture, but the script was flipped as the Surrey-based side claimed victory in style.The Welsh side, who beat Manchester Storm on Friday evening, had no answer as the hosts scored three second-period goals without reply.Flames got off to a fast start on home ice as Brett Neumann and Jack Jacome gave them a two-goal lead before Kristoff Kontos pulled one back for Devils.Jacome scored his second of the evening after the first break, before Brett Neumann and Justin Ducharme increased Guildford’s lead heading into the final period.Ben Bowns made two phenomenal saves in the final minutes of the second period to prevent the Flames from scoring a sixth.The third period was a quiet affair, though the Devils did threaten Fazio in the Flames’ net on occasion, but did not have any chances of real substance.Devils have now won two and lost two of their four Challenge Cup fixtures, while Guildford have won one and lost two of their three games.Guildford head to Nottingham Panthers on Sunday, September 20.
