DFB execs in talks with Jürgen Klopp in New York

As anticipated, Germany has set its sights on New York. According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, DFB officials are in the city for negotiations with Jürgen Klopp, the candidate to become the German national team’s head coach. The initial talks involve Klopp, Marc Kosicke, and DFB representatives Bernd Neuendorf and Hans-Joachim Watzke, and they have now begun in New York, as Plettenberg reports. The plan calls for the final discussions between the DFB and Red Bull to take place early next week in New York, with Watzke and Oliver Mintzlaff handling the talks. Everything is moving along as expected, and official announcements are anticipated once all terms are finalized. There is still some work to do.
From Sky Sport Germany, it appears the salary and overarching vision could be straightforward to agree upon. The potential sticking point lies in how much authority Klopp would wield. There are rumors that the DFB is prepared to grant him whatever authority he desires, but football is often driven by ego. Granting a head coach full autonomy to implement changes across the team, the organization, and even the facilities could lead to internal tensions.
Stay tuned, as this could resolve quickly if the DFB is truly willing to meet Klopp’s terms. If the association is ready to play ball, a rapid turnaround seems possible.
