​  ​​Read More​     Major League Baseball has opened its first phase of All-Star Game voting, and nine Diamondbacks’ players are on the ballot, one at each position, including designated hitter.Manager Torey Lovullo said earlier this month he feels strongly about Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte as National League All-Stars, along with third baseman Nolan Arenado. Carroll, the player with the best resume´ for All-Star votes, is one of six players in the last 50 years (since 1976) to have 15 or more doubles, eight or more triples and 10 or more home runs within their first 65 games of a season, per the Diamondbacks.Marte, a three-time All-Star, entered the Diamondbacks’ Thursday, June 11, game batting .248 with 11 home runs and 40 runs batted in. Arenado was at .257 with eight home runs and 30 RBI.”I know a lot of it is sometimes a popularity contest and I respect that, but at some point the players vote on it,” Lovullo said. “That’s the part of it that I really like. When it gets down to the nitty gritty and the backups are chosen, that’s a great process.Pitchers are not voted on by fans, but Lovullo said he will campaign publicly for starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez and closer Paul Sewald, among others, to be selected for the All-Star Game.Rodriguez (5-2, 2.52 ERA) leads the team in innings pitched.
