​The Pro Football Hall of Fame is set to enshrine five NFL legends into its ranks on Saturday, Aug. 8. Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick will not be among them.Belichick was unable to make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. All that is known is that he received 39 or fewer votes during his maiden voyage on the ballot.Because voting is not public, the panel of voters – comprised mainly of journalists – who did not vote for Belichick are not required to explain the reasoning for their decision.That said, Belichick does have a couple of notable blemishes on his resume. The Patriots endured both the Spygate and Deflategate scandals under his watch, with the former resulting in the largest fine ever doled out to an NFL coach ($500,000).Others will point to Belichick’s lack of success as a head coach without Tom Brady as a wart – though Brady has routinely advocated for his decades-long coach to be enshrined in Canton.There were also rumblings that Bill Polian – who served as the Indianapolis Colts’ general manager from 1999 to 2011 – may have orchestrated a behind-the-scenes movement to keep Belichick out of the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Polian referred to those allegations as “unequivocally false” in a conversation with USA TODAY Sports’ Jarrett Bell.”I was shocked that he didn’t get in,” Polian told Bell. “He deserves to be in the Hall, without question.
