​OXFORD — Ole Miss football quarterback Trinidad Chambliss couldn’t hide his smile while taking questions about how much his team’s win over LSU and Lane Kiffin meant.The No. 9 Rebels (3-0, 1-0 SEC) downed Kiffin’s No. 7 Tigers (2-1, 0-1), winning 32-24 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Sept. 19. The game was played in front of a crowd that numbered 70,033 people, breaking a program record.“This one meant a lot more than other games,” Chambliss said. “The coaches that were here, now at LSU, some of the players as well, so a little bit more to it. So yeah, I’m really happy that we got the win.”Chambliss orchestrated much of the offensive output that resulted in the win, completing 33 of 48 passes for 363 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also added on a rushing touchdown.Chambliss referenced the intense emotions he felt as a result of this matchup. He brought them up when apologizing for using an expletive during his postgame TV interview and again when asked if he was trying to stare down Kiffin after scoring some of his touchdowns.“Just a lot of emotions throughout this game,” Chambliss said. “You kind of black out when you’re playing a big game in front of so many people, just a lot riding on it. So yeah, I might have been looking over at that sideline. Just the emotions kind of came out.”Chambliss added that he did not speak with Kiffin over the phone or via text in the week leading up to the game. He also didn’t get a chance to speak to his former coach after the Rebels’ win.“It’s definitely weird,” Chambliss said. “It was different seeing him, I guess run out and seeing him in purple and gold and seeing some of the other coaches on the other sideline with another team. … I wasn’t able to catch him after the game. There was just a lot going on. I think he got out of there pretty quickly.”What Pete Golding said about facing Lane KiffinOle Miss coach Pete Golding chose to focus more on the big picture, reinforcing the idea that this was just another game for the Rebels.Golding previously indicated that he still had a good relationship with Kiffin, stating he had “no ill will” toward him and that the two texted regularly. The pair was seen joking and hugging midfield before the game.“I don’t think anybody came here to beat LSU,” Golding said. “That’s not what our goal was coming in and working so hard in the offseason this summer. It wasn’t just to win one football game. … It wasn’t the Super Bowl, and we didn’t make it to be the Super Bowl.”Golding praised the fans for the atmosphere they created, leading to multiple false start and offside penalties against the Tigers.“Really happy for our fans. Created an unbelievable atmosphere, which is the norm here,” Golding said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s Tulane, doesn’t matter if it’s Kiffin and LSU. They’re going to show up.
