HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) — Little League Baseball provided an action-packed night in Horseheads on Monday as the New York State District 6 Championship for the 9/10 division delivered plenty of offense, two strong teams, and heavy rainfall. Corning National pulled ahead of the host team, Horseheads, 8-7 before play was suspended due to unplayable field conditions. The game is to resume in the top of the 4th inning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Horseheads Little League, under the lights, to determine the champion.
Griffin Malnoske of Horseheads delivered a bases-clearing triple in the top of the 3rd, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving Horseheads a 5-2 lead. With Corning trailing 7-2 as the bottom of the 3rd began, Corning rallied, scoring multiple runs on errors and passed balls behind the plate to seize an 8-7 edge heading into the 4th. Wyatt Hunter scored on a wild pitch for Corning, lifting the National squad to the District 6 advantage as the title will be decided Tuesday night.
The game was halted before the 4th inning because the field had become unplayable due to the ongoing rain. 18 Sports will have updates on Tuesday night with the final outcome of the District 6 final.
