The Los Angeles Dodgers fought back from a three-run ninth-inning lead by the Colorado Rockies to claim a victory in their first extra-inning game of the season, scaling to 60 wins in the process. The turning point for the Dodgers was Dalton Rushing, who delivered both the walk-off hit in the 11th and a crucial tag in the ninth that preserved the tie. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Rockies center fielder Cole Carrigg laced a bases-loaded double off Dodgers pitcher Tanner Scott. In a frantic moment, Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages retrieved the ball off the wall, and after a quick relay through Miguel Rojas, Dalton Rushing sidestepped defeat by tagging out Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman at home on a close play. An initial safe call that would have given Colorado a 7-6 lead was overturned after a review, leaving the inning tied and the Dodgers clinging to life. That moment came after Scott had surrendered three runs in the ninth, ending a scoreless stretch that had stretched back to June 9.
Two innings later, Rushing delivered a walk-off single, scoring Teoscar Hernández despite Rushing’s bat breaking in the moment. Earlier in the game, Rushing had also contributed two doubles, highlighting a standout performance that swung momentum in Los Angeles’ favor. The Dodgers received a monster offensive contribution from superstar Shohei Ohtani, who went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the third inning, his 19th of the season, followed by a two-RBI single in the next frame. The two-way ace also made a notable impact at the plate, continuing to drive runs and provide power for the lineup. In addition to Ohtani’s big night, Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas each drove in another run, helping to stretch the Dodgers’ lead and set the stage for the late drama.
On the mound, Eric Lauer pitched well, delivering six innings and three earned runs, a performance that should have earned him the win. However, his 99-pitch outing soured when the bullpen couldn’t hold the fort, leaving his record looking at 4-5 despite a strong effort. The Dodgers improved to 60-32, while the Rockies slipped to 37-55. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. PT, with Justin Wrobleski (10-2, 2.80 ERA) set to start for Los Angeles against Michael Lorenzen (3-9, 6.91 ERA) for Colorado.
As the Dodgers push toward the late-season stretch, the team will hope to carry the momentum of this dramatic comeback into the next series. The performance from Dalton Rushing, highlighted by his walk-off hit and crucial ninth-inning tag, underscores the value of depth on the roster and the ability of players to step up in high-pressure moments. Coupled with Ohtani’s continued excellence and timely contributions from Muncy and Rojas, Los Angeles demonstrated both resilience and offensive clout in a game that tested the nerves but ultimately ended in a victory that kept them atop the standings and set the tone for a potentially decisive stretch run.
