One of the coolest things to think about over the next few years is the possibility of the Oklahoma City Thunder having three major representatives on Team USA when the 2028 Olympics come to Los Angeles.Imagine Mark Daigneault on the coaching staff while Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams are wearing “USA” across their chests. That’s not some unrealistic dream anymore. It’s a conversation that’s becoming more and more believable.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDaigneault has earned his respect around the league. What he’s built in Oklahoma City isn’t just about winning games. He’s created a culture where players develop, buy into their roles, and consistently improve. Every year it feels like another young player takes a leap under his leadership. If Team USA wants some of the brightest basketball minds involved in 2028, it’d be hard to leave Daigneault out of the conversation. Then there’s Chet Holmgren. His game was practically made for international basketball. He protects the rim, handles the ball like a guard, spaces the floor, and can impact a game without needing 25 shot attempts. By the time the Olympics arrive, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s viewed as one of the best big men in the world. Of course, Holmgren didn’t have the best Western Conference Finals but that doesn’t mean the prior statement still can’t be true.Jalen Williams deserves just as much attention. In my opinion, he’s exactly the type of player Team USA loves to have. He can score, defend multiple positions, facilitate, and do all the little things that help teams win. Every Olympic roster needs players who don’t care about individual stats and simply make everyone around them better. Dub fits that description perfectly. What makes this even cooler is that the Olympics will be taking place in our own country. There would be something special about watching three members of the Thunder organization represent Team USA on the biggest international stage while playing in front of American fans.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementObviously, we’re still two years away, and a lot can change in the NBA. Injuries happen, new stars emerge, and roster decisions are never easy. But if these three continue on the trajectory they’re currently on, I think there’s a very real chance Oklahoma City could be one of the most represented organizations on Team USA.As a Thunder fan, that’s just awesome to think about. Watching Chet and Dub compete for a gold medal while Mark Daigneault helps lead Team USA from the sidelines would be another reminder that what Oklahoma City is building isn’t just respected around the NBA. It’s becoming respected around the basketball world.
