​MEDINAH, IL — U.S. President Donald Trump is committed to attend the 2026 Presidents Cup on Sunday, Sept. 27, the PGA Tour officially confirmed.PGA Tour officials announced enhanced security and additional restrictions will be in place at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago for Trump’s planned visit during Sunday’s final session featuring 12 singles matches. It will include TSA-style security screening to enter the first tee grandstand, which can seat as many as 5,000 people.The U.S. is facing a 10.5-7.5 deficit and trying to avoid just its second loss in this biennial global team golf event since it was conceived in 1994.Trump was named the honorary chairman of the Presidents Cup last month and announced in a statement in conjunction with the distinction that he would be on hand for the event. There have been six other U.S. presidents to hold the role of honorary chairman at the Presidents Cup: Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford.Trump’s role at the Presidents Cup remains unclear. Golfweek – which is part of the USA TODAY Network – reported Saturday that White House officials have requested that the PGA Tour permit Trump to speak for 15 minutes as part of his appearance.Trump, an avid golfer and golf fan, previously attended the final round of the PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship held at Trump National Doral in Miami in May. He also made several appearances at sports events this summer, including at Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the World Cup final, the IndyCar Freedom 250 and the Texas-Tennessee college football game on Sept. 26.He watched the Cadillac Championship from a green-side suite behind what appeared to be a bulletproof glass window.
