​The Atlanta Dream will be without one of their top rebounders as they resume the WNBA regular season on Thursday versus the Connecticut Sun.Forward Brionna Jones will miss the rest of the 2026 season due to a left leg injury that she sustained on Aug. 13. the team announced. Though specifics on the injury were not provided, the Dream said Jones was expected to make a full recovery by next season.Jones only appeared in nine games this season after recovering from right knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus that sidelined her for the first two months of the season. She signed a three-year, $3.075 million contract with Atlanta during the offseason.In limited action, Jones was the Dream’s second-leading rebounder, averaging 5.6 boards. She was also the team’s sixth-leading scorer at 8.2 points per game. The injury occurred during the second quarter of Atlanta’s 104-69 win over the Sun on Aug. 13. Jones blocked a shot by Connecticut’s Nell Angloma, then landed hard on her left leg. She hopped to keep weight off the leg as she left the court, and then went to the locker room. Just before the WNBA’s two-week break for the FIBA Women’s World Cup, the Dream signed DeWanna Bonner, who had her contract bought out by the Phoenix Mercury so she could join a playoff contender. Dream has been championship contender with JonesJones was in her 10th WNBA season, the past two with Atlanta. She played for the Sun during her previous eight years in the league. Last season, Jones scored 12.8 points per game with 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals, and was named to her fourth All-Star team. The Sun’s 2017 first-round pick (No. 8 overall) out of Maryland, Jones has earned Most Improved Player (2021) and Sixth Player of the Year (2022) honors during her career. The Dream has been a playoff team during both of Jones’ seasons. Last year, they doubled their win total under first-year head coach Karl Smesko, finishing 30-14 and earning the league’s No. 3 seed before losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Indiana Fever. At 26-14, Atlanta has a chance to match last season’s record with four regular-season games remaining. Currently, the Dream are tied with Indiana for the No. 4 seed and could finish as high as No. 2 before the end of the season. After Thursday’s game versus the Sun, Atlanta closes out its home schedule by hosting the Chicago Sky (15-25). The Dream then end the regular season with two games at the New York Liberty (24-16).
