I don’t know how people feel about Duke and North Carolina when it comes to which program is better. I think both are pretty comparable in the college basketball landscape, at least historically.Right now, I don’t think it’s unfair to say that Duke is the better program, though historically, North Carolina has been just as good as anybody. To me, going to either one of these programs is an absolute honor, and players should treat it as such.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHowever, one Duke recruit doesn’t think that’s the case, and from his comments, I can see why it has a lot of North Carolina fans in an uproar.”I like a lot of the schools that I had offers from, but at the end of the day, I think the thing that sold it was if I go to one of these schools, I feel like I’m missing out on Duke,” Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje said. “For Duke, I didn’t, I didn’t feel that way for the other schools. Like, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on going to, I don’t know, UNC, for example.“Like, it would’ve been great, but I feel like I would’ve been missing out on Duke if I had gone to UNC.”For Boumtje-Boumtje to say this, he had to feel some type of way about North Carolina throughout this recruiting process. Perhaps North Carolina didn’t give him the love he was looking for, and Duke did, or he’s just trying to cause a rivalry already.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAs we’ve seen in the past, many Duke and North Carolina players will say some outrageous things about each other’s programs, even if they’re false. As much as I love the energy from the young man, I think it’s outrageous to say that North Carolina wouldn’t give him some sort of opportunity.Don’t get me wrong, Duke is better right now, but the two programs play in the same conference, will have multiple players drafted year in and year out, and have very well-respected head coaches. Unless I’m missing something here, I don’t think this is a fair comment.
