​This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Pro Football Hall of Famer Dwight Freeney.In his interview with Easton Jr., Freeney, who participated in this year’s American Century Championship, held at Edgewood Tahoe and aired on NBC and Peacock, revealed the impact that he and many other NFL players can have when supporting their alma maters.”Well, I think you know to each its own, like whatever you decide in your life, and how it goes, you can do these things or not. I’m not judging anybody for not doing it,” said Freeney, “I know the position and place that I am in my life, and I’ve always had a, I don’t know, like a soft spot for wanting to help the youth and help the guys who are coming up in this game, and I think this is a great way to do so. Obviously, you know me, bleeding orange, and you know I want to help the alma mater out, obviously, and however I can give them some gems, help the coaching staff and players out.”Since 2025, Freeney has been at his alma mater, Syracuse, serving as the Director of Player Development. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other players around the league have notably shown their support for the next generation of players from their schools.”I think that in my life now, that’s where I am, 5-10 years from now, don’t know where I will be, but I know probably I will still try to help out the youth to get to where they want to get to; they have dreams and aspirations to wanting to be pro football players, all the foreign players, whatever it is.” said Freeney, “So, for me, it’s a way to continue that for other people in their journey, keep on passing the torch, keep on growing the game, because it’s done so many great things for my family and me.
