The Philadelphia Eagles have a veteran core capable of competing immediately, but their rookie class will not have to wait long to push for meaningful roles.
Training camp will determine how quickly the group can adjust, but several rookies have a realistic path to starting in 2026 due to roster turnover, position battles, and the team’s willingness to trust young players. Philadelphia has leaned heavily on rookie-contract talent in recent seasons, particularly on defense, and that approach could continue as the Eagles reshape key spots on both sides of the ball.

Makai Lemon has the clearest offensive path. The Eagles traded up to land the former USC wide receiver, and the move became even more significant after the A.J. Brown trade changed the structure of Philadelphia’s passing game. DeVonta Smith enters as the clear No. 1 receiver, but the competition behind him is wide open. Lemon’s speed, college production, and ability to create explosive plays give him a real chance to push Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and Elijah Moore for starting snaps if he stays healthy after dealing with a hamstring issue in the spring.
On defense, Deontae Lawson has a path worth monitoring at linebacker. Jihaad Campbell is entering his second season, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has taken first-team reps, but the Eagles’ off-ball linebacker rotation remains a place where camp performance can change the depth chart quickly. Lawson’s physicality and instincts could give him a chance to earn early defensive snaps and eventually push for spot starts.
Keyshawn James-Newby may have the steepest climb, but edge depth is always valuable in Vic Fangio’s defense. If he proves he can rush with power, set the edge, and contribute on special teams, the undrafted rookie could force his way into the game-day rotation.
The Eagles do not need every rookie to start immediately, but they need this class to create pressure. Lemon has the most obvious path; Majors could benefit from offensive line volatility; Lawson enters a competitive linebacker room; and James-Newby has traits worth developing. Training camp will decide which rookies are simply depth pieces and which ones can push for real snaps in 2026.
