Last season may not have been perfect for the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive tackle, but he’s still a foundational piece to Philly’s future.
That’s going to earn him a massive contract.
In fact, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell thinks that Carter is going to get paid before the 2026 season begins. And he thinks it’ll be for more than $30 million per year.

The current record for a defensive tackle is the $31.8 million annual average value on the deal Chris Jones has with the Kansas City Chiefs.
If any DT playing right now is going to break that, it’s Carter.

“Howie Roseman is shifting Philadelphia’s spending from offense to defense over the next 12 months, and while anything’s possible in the modern NFL or with the trade-friendly general manager, it would be a surprise if Carter’s next deal wasn’t a record-setter,” Barnwell writes. “That would come from either the Eagles or another team, which presumably would have given up a first-round pick and more to land the Super Bowl winner. An extension for Carter would likely come in between $32 million and $35 million per season, and given how aggressive the Eagles are with signing young players to contracts, expect it to happen before the start of the 2026 campaign.”

That is an interesting aspect added in there by Barnwell: He mentions the idea of the Eagles trading Carter.
There were reports that the Browns wanted Carter in a deal for Myles Garrett, and while not clear if they actually made that ask, it also sounded like the Eagles wouldn’t have done it.

Philly seems much more likely to sign Carter long-term than to deal him, but Roseman can do some crazy things occasionally.
In an offseason that the Eagles already traded A.J. Brown, would they think about it? Maybe they’d at least pick up the phone.
In reality, Carter is going to get paid a lot of money, and probably by the Eagles.
