England midfielder Declan Rice and defenders Reece James and Marc Guehi trained on Friday, July 10, in the build-up to the World Cup quarterfinal against Norway on Saturday, July 11. Head coach Thomas Tuchel said, “We had everyone available and training, which we of course like. We have the full choice except for our suspended player, Jarell Quansah. That’s the good news.”
Rice had been ill for several days before the match and was isolated from the squad by FIFA as a precaution to prevent any potential outbreak. James has not played since England’s June 23 game with Ghana, nursing hamstring issues, while Guehi has been managing tightness in his hamstrings since the Three Lions faced Mexico on July 5. The trio’s update is encouraging, but England still have concerns regarding midfielder Jordan Henderson, who is sidelined due to an injury.
Henderson underwent surgery after sustaining a hard fall during England’s victory celebrations on July 5. He was injured while jumping over an advertising board beside the pitch as teammates and traveling fans sang along to “Wonderwall” at the Estadio Azteca, and he landed awkwardly, necessitating on-field oxygen and a stretcher. The incident caused him to miss the remainder of the tournament.
