The Blues generated more opportunities against Unai Emery’s team and held a clear edge in chances created, yet fell 2-1 to drop their first Premier League points of the season.Maresca found plenty to be encouraged by across the 90 minutes, particularly the way his team successfully nullified Villa’s counter-attacking threat. Nevertheless, he was frustrated that the hosts capitalized on their limited openings while City repeatedly squandered far better opportunities despite enjoying significantly more time in dangerous areas.”I think we deserved more from the game, from the amount of chances that we created and for the chances that we conceded,” said Maresca, via the Manchester Evening News.Cristiano Ronaldo delivers brutal Portugal ‘ultimatum’ after Jorge Jesus ‘broke his word’Erik ten Hag ’embarrassed’ by Scott McTominay transfer as ex-Man United manager slams club bosses -Credit:Carl Recine, Getty Images”We lost because probably we haven’t been clinical enough in the box. Sometimes when you concede the first goal was mistake, the second goal came from transition. In 45 [minutes] it is difficult to avoid that every time, but we learn from the game and we move on and try to improve.”You can always do something better but for me when you plan a game, especially against this team, you know you are going to concede some transitions because they play for that, they wait for that but if before the game you say you are going to concede one transition in 45 minutes, are you happy?”I would say I will be happy. In the second half we conceded one and they score. They were clinical in that moment and we are going to try to learn from that and move on. “Sometimes you have to be more clinical but also more precise with the last pass, more accurate. We’re going to learn from that.”To listen to the latest episode of ‘All Out Soccer’ – CLICK HERENext up for Maresca’s side is a visit from Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday in the fourth round of the EFL Cup, before travelling to the South Coast to take on the Seagulls once again on Saturday in the Premier League.
