Eric Dier (32) could depart from AS Monaco only a year into his three-year contract, according to chief executive Thiago Scuro. Dier joined Monaco last summer on a free transfer after his contract with Bayern Munich expired. Yet the season proved hampered by injuries for the Englishman, limiting him to just 13 appearances in all competitions. Questions surrounding his future at the club have grown as Monaco’s wage bill comes under scrutiny by the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog.
“It is not an imposition from the DNCG,” Scuro explained at a press conference attended by Get French Football News. “It is a plan that we presented to them.” The discussion could ultimately lead to departures for high-earning players like Dier. “Of course, he could leave,” Scuro continued. “It is a topic we have already discussed with him and his agents. It is also about finding the right conditions for Monaco. When you need to adjust the wage bill, the players with the largest contracts inevitably become a focal point.”
