Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy aren’t good enough for this team to seriously contend. While they could settle for a lower-stakes option like Hollywood Brown, or pursue an elite receiver like Brian Thomas Jr., a middle-of-the-road option might make the most sense for the Chiefs. That’s exactly the kind of WR ESPN analyst Seth Walder is urging the Chiefs to trade for. He wants KC to swing a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for $22 million WR Chris Godwin Jr., who’d instantly provide a spark to this passing offense.Chiefs urged to trade for Chris Godwin by ESPN”Who should they target? Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin Jr.,” Walder writes. “In Godwin, the Chiefs would get a veteran player who is past his prime — just 1.2 yards per route run this season — but could still be an asset.”Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs need WR help, and while Godwin might not be the most appealing option, with his expensive contract and given the fact that he’s not in his prime and is 30 years old, he is an intriguing target for the Chiefs. This season, he has 27 receptions for 243 yards and no touchdowns. But with the Buccaneers’ passing offense going through Emeka Egbuka and their other options on offense, Godwin seems like an expendable piece.Of course, he might not even be available for trade, with the Buccaneers just a half-game back of the NFC South lead over the Carolina Panthers despite a 3-5 record.MORE: Inside Harrison Butker’s missed field goals: How Chiefs kicker situation became one of NFL’s worstBut if they lose to the Chicago Bears in Week 9, and the Chiefs are willing to spend a bit to acquire Godwin, there might be a real chance to bring in the veteran WR to bolster this WR room. While the Chiefs could use an elite player like George Pickens, with an elite running game with Kenneth Walker III, and a good receiving tight end in Travis Kelce, getting someone like Godwin would be a great middle-of-the-road option. Can the Chiefs actually find a way to pull this off? It might prove difficult to listen to Walder’s advice. But if the Buccaneers are open for business, which wouldn’t be a surprise, Godwin to the Chiefs would make a lot of sense for everyone involved.More NFL news:NFL insiders reveal four landing spots for Colts’ Jonathan TaylorJoe Burrow joins rare NFL history with six touchdowns despite three interceptionsJayden Daniels snaps unbelievable drought with Commanders’ win over Eagles4 stats that show how bad Chargers’ Justin Herbert has been in 2026Jerry Jones defends Brian Schottenheimer after Cowboys collapse vs. Cardinals
