While there seems to be a surprisingly sizable subset of Boston Celtics fans eager to move on from star forward Jaylen Brown, do not count former Boston wing and assistant coach Evan Turner among them. Turner opened up on how he sees the situation between the Georgia native and the Celtics on a recent episode of the “Celtics Chronicle” podcast in the wake of Boston’s failed pursuit of Milwaukee Bucks star big man Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“As long as Jaylen is professional, I definitely think they should stay together,” said ET. “I think it’s a tough duo to really, break down and break up. Considering when it comes to these surefire duos, every piece needs to be elite, and I believe once again we forget sometimes you’ve got a guy that finished sixth (in) MVP voting, led a team of 55, 56 wins, but also his playoff experience is something you can’t really forget.”
“That’s a huge advantage,” he added. “So, to be completely honest, I wasn’t even mad when (the Celtics tried to) empty the clip for Giannis because, to a certain extent, I thought I had up three to maybe one pick would have been decent, because you’re getting Jaylen Brown.”
Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown (7) on defense in the second half during Game 1 of a 2026 NBA Playoffs game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
“Jaylen Brown is unbelievable,” suggested the former Boston assistant coach. “I love what Giannis is doing. I love how Giannis competes. I remember Damian Lillard saying Giannis (was) one of the best players he ever played with. He loved to go to war with him. It’s just, Giannis has been to war so many times (…).”
“Injuries are starting to come so often now. You’re wondering if the way he can play will that last through another three or four years, or another run of what you really need in this loaded NBA. And all it takes is one tweak of something for your whole season to be down a drain. I just felt like Giannis has a lot of wear and tear on his body, and I don’t know how his game is going to age considering he needs to play so deep into the paint and play a certain type of way.”
