Asante Samuel Sr., whose son, Asante Samuel Jr., replaced Porter for Mike McCarthy’s team, isn’t sold on Porter being a fix-all for America’s team.“Joey Porter, he is an upgrade, but I don’t see him as an impact player,” the elder Samuel said on the “Say What Needs To Be Said” podcast. “If the goal is to get paid, why settle for getting traded without a new contact? Joey Porter is essentially in the same position he was in Pittsburgh. At the end of the day, there is only so much money to spread around.”Samuel views the all-in move as one somewhat born out of desperation for Jones, who turns 84 later this month.“In the last two years, Jerry Jones and his team have traded over 10 draft picks,” Samuel said. “At this point, Jerry Jones is only adding names to the team. Now, in the 2027 NFL Draft, the Cowboys only have a first-round pick, a second-round pick, a fourth-round pick and a seventh-round pick. Jerry Jones is crashing out. Either he feels his time is coming, and he needs to hurry up and see the Cowboys winning, or he is crashing out.“A bunch of egos and superstars on a team rarely works out for the best.”The younger Samuel stood out for the Steelers during the preseason, and will have to be a key defender going forward with Jamel Dean dealing with an ankle injury.Related HeadlinesJerry Jones Leaves Gray Area on Potential Joey Porter Jr. Extension: ‘Takes Two to Tango’Mason Rudolph Emerges as Potential Trade Target‘Don’t View as Top-Tier Corner’: NFL Executives Believe Cowboys Overpaid for Joey Porter Jr.Read more at Steelers Now
