​The 2026 Kansas City Chiefs offense will be under a microscope as the unit hopes to make more explosive plays. Jon Gruden, known as an offensive-minded coach, weighed in on the team’s struggles in recent years.”The standards on offense in Kansas City are sky high. They’ve always had very high standards. I got to sit there in training camp and watch them last year,” said Gruden. “In 2022, number one scoring offense, number one total offense, number one passing offense, but it’s been on a decline every year since. Take a look at it. They went from first to 15th, the 15th, 20-first last year. They went down to 15th, and now 21st last year in scoring in Kansas City. When it comes to total offense, first, ninth, 16th, and now 20th; it’s sliding,” said Gruden. “And then in pass offense, first, sixth, 14th, and 16th. So obviously, with this offense, they aren’t meeting the standards. (Patrick) Mahomes’ TD passes. Think about it. In 2022, he had 41 touchdown passes that led the NFL. It slipped to 27, then 26, and 22 last year. And I know he missed three games. But this offense has been declining from an analytical standpoint.”Reid and Gruden worked together as coordinators for the Green Bay Packers in the 1990s, well before they became head coaches in the NFL.
