Fact Check: Image Does NOT Show FIFA President Infantino Making Phone Call During Egypt-Argentina Match — He Was At A Different Game

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Did a caption accompanying a viral image correctly claim that FIFA President Gianni Infantino was making a phone call after Egypt took a 2-0 lead over Argentina? No, that claim is not true. Infantino did not attend the World Cup match in Atlanta on July 7, 2026. Instead, he was present at the Switzerland versus Colombia game in Vancouver, which occurred a few hours later on the same day, more than 2,000 miles away from Atlanta.
The assertion originated in a post and image published by the X account @SabriAmca1453 on July 9, 2026. Translated from Turkish, the message read: “Score: Argentina 0 – 2 Egypt when Who did the FIFA president call ❓❓.” The accompanying image depicted the moment of the supposed phone call as if Infantino were signaling a call around the 69th minute of the Argentina–Egypt match, shortly after Egypt had taken a 2-0 lead. In reality, Argentina later mounted a comeback and defeated Egypt 3-2 in the final minutes of the game. The post and image have since been archived as part of the record of that claim.
Additional evidence comes from a published image by Anadolu Agency, a Turkish state-run news outlet, which shows Infantino at the Switzerland–Colombia match in Vancouver. This game also took place on July 7, 2026, several hours after the Argentina–Egypt kickoff. The juxtaposition of these two appearances—Infantino being photographed in Vancouver for Switzerland–Colombia while the Argentina–Egypt match unfolded in Atlanta—undermines the claim that Infantino was in Atlanta or that he made a phone call during or immediately after the Egypt–Argentina game.
From a logistical standpoint, the timing and travel logistics strongly indicate that Infantino could not have attended both games in person. The Argentina–Egypt match began at noon Eastern Time (ET) in Atlanta, while the Switzerland–Colombia match in Vancouver started at 4:00 p.m. ET on the same day. Even the most efficient, non-stop commercial flight between Atlanta and Vancouver would require approximately five and a half hours of flight time, not accounting for boarding, taxiing, and potential delays. Indeed, non-stop air travel between these two cities typically cannot be completed in under four hours, which would be even more unlikely for a rapid transition between kickoff times. This makes the notion of Infantino being present at both venues on the same day highly implausible.
In short, the viral caption alleging that Infantino was making a phone call after Egypt’s 2-0 lead against Argentina is false. The public record shows Infantino was in Vancouver for the Switzerland–Colombia match and not in Atlanta for the Argentina–Egypt game, and the timing of the two events, coupled with standard travel durations, supports the conclusion that the claim was incorrect and misleading. For accuracy and SEO clarity, this distinction should be preserved: Infantino attended the Vancouver match, not the Atlanta game, and there is no verified evidence of a “call” during the Argentina–Egypt contest.
