Falcons Recap: Dwight Freeney’s prediction, Kyle Pitts’ ESPN ranking

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

It’s Friday, and that means the Atlanta Falcons are now just two weeks away from rookie reporting to the Flowery Branch facility to begin training camp. The rookies are slated to arrive on July 24, with the veterans following on July 28. Even as the NFL news cycle slows, we’ve still pulled together a handful of stories from around the league to help you power through another hot summer evening.
In today’s Falcons Wire recap, Dwight Freeney shares his thoughts on Kevin Stefanski’s arrival in Atlanta, Kyle Pitts garners praise in ESPN’s executive poll, Brian Robinson Jr. earns commendation from Pro Football Focus, and we continue our training camp spotlight series with wide receiver Keelan Marion.
In ESPN’s latest personnel poll, Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts ranked No. 8 among NFL tight ends ahead of the 2026 season. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler captured the gist of the consensus around league executives: Pitts is recognized as one of the top-10 at his position, climbing to No. 8 after being unranked in 2025.
This marks a return to form for Pitts, who burst onto the scene with a standout 1,000-yard rookie campaign in 2021 but then endured a few down years. A lingering knee issue sidelined him for much of two seasons. “If he’s confident and you believe in him, he will ball out,” one NFL coordinator said. “If he gets involved early, he can be the most dominant player on the field.”
Former Falcons defensive end Dwight Freeney sat down with DJ Saddiqi, fielding questions about the Colts and offering a few thoughts on the Falcons. Freeney was asked about Atlanta’s ceiling under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. “When you’re in a new system, a new coach, it’s going to take some time,” Freeney noted. “I don’t believe a one-year fix will suddenly make you a playoff contender. The good thing is they’re in a division where a 7–9 or 8–8 team could still sneak into the playoffs. Carolina, Tampa Bay, and the Saints aren’t head and shoulders above the rest, so there isn’t a clear standout foe you must worry about.”
Our Falcons training camp spotlight continues with undrafted free agent wide receiver Keelan Marion. Marion’s path to the NFL has included stints at three colleges. He began at Connecticut, posting 32 receptions for 563 yards over two seasons before transferring to BYU in 2021. He didn’t leave a lasting imprint with the Cougars, then moved to Miami in 2025, where he enjoyed a breakout year. That season, Marion logged 57 catches for 746 yards and two touchdowns. Across five collegiate seasons, he amassed 133 receptions for 1,871 yards and nine touchdowns. — READ THE FULL STORY on Falcons Wire.
