​We asked, you answered! This week, we asked you all on The Feed about which player you think will lead Michigan in tackling this season. It’s not a huge sample size, but a majority of people expect linebacker Troy Bowles to have the most tackles on the team when all is said and done.Linebackers might be a safe bet Last season, two linebackers led the team in tackles, and three of the top-five leading tackles were linebackers. For a defense that relied heavily on the position, that was what you’d expect. Most linebackers have a lot of responsibility on their plate. If anyone breaks through the defensive line, the position is there to help get the stop, and they’re even asked to help out in coverage.Bowles and sophomore Chase Taylor both hope to show how they’ve improved in the offseason. Bowles led fan voting for leading tackler this season (38 percent). He finished 2025 with 27 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack, while Taylor finished with just 10 total tackles. The coaching staff knows the position is thin, though, so new defensive coordinator Jay Hill might have some things planned to take pressure off the inexperienced group.Acala.: “I think Taylor has the most probability to take a big leap. If someone in the secondary is the leading tackler, that’s usually a bad sign. So hopefully a LB is good enough.”Ryan2288: “LB’S will shine as far as tackles go. I’m excited for Chase Taylor. My concern as far as the group goes is depth in case of injuries. Troy Bowles most likely candidate though.”It might not be worrisome to have a safety on top While it’s been typical to see linebackers compile the most tackles, that wasn’t the case for Jay Hill’s BYU defense. Hill’s defense relied on the secondary and asked the players to win matchups in man coverage. That’s not the full story, though, as Hill used his secondary wisely to get pressure and keep opposing offenses off balance. While seeing a safety at the top of the tackles list may have worried me in the past — signaling blown coverages and too many opponents getting to the next level — that might not tell us everything in Hill’s system.GideonC: “This is concerning.”I’m not saying we won’t all be yelling at the TV about a blown coverage here or there. That’s bound to happen given the talented offenses Michigan will face this season. I am saying having a thin linebacker room might not be the same cause for concern it would’ve been under Michigan’s previous systems. While you’d expect the Wolverines to rotate a few guys at the position, it shouldn’t be as wonky as the situations we had last year.Thanks for weighing in on The Feed.
