Locked in a scoreless tie at the half, the Minford Falcons’ football program scored 21 points in the second half as two third-quarter touchdown runs by Wyatt Swick and a blocked punt, scoop and score by Taylor Malone in the fourth quarter sealed a home victory for Josh Bailey’s group as Minford claimed a 21-0 victory over the Northwest Mohawks’ football program in a SOC II contest that was held in Minford Friday evening.Deadlocked at the half, both defenses stood tall as Northwest held Minford to 86 yards of total offense in the first half while the Falcons held the Mohawks to 45 yards of total offense in the opening two quarters of play. Both teams combined for eight first downs in the opening half, with seven of the eight first downs coming by way of the run game and the eighth happening by way of penalty.Minford sophomore Wyatt Swick and Northwest junior Landon Hodge led the ground games in the opening half. Swick ran for 75 yards in the opening half while Hodge grinded out 15 yards as the pair generated much of the two teams’ offensive movement with their physical running throughout the first two quarters.Behind a 16-yard fake punt run by Aidden Armbrister in its own territory and Hodge’s physicality, Northwest, who forced three Minford punts in the opening half, moved onto Minford’s end of the field and threatened to score the game’s opening salvo with under a minute to play in the first half. However, the Falcons, who picked off three passes on the evening, turned the Mohawks away as Colt Donahoe intercepted a Malachi McNutt attempt at the goal line, preserving the 0-0 score heading into the halftime break. The second half proved to be controlled by Minford, as the Falcons needed just three minutes to put together a seven-play, 79-yard drive that featured an eight-yard run by Bryce McLaughlin, a 27-yard pass connection from Mason Bailey to Donahoe that put Minford in Northwest terrritory, and runs of 16 and 19 yards by Swick and McLaughlin respectively, giving the Falcons a first-and-goal at the Northwest 6.Minford needed only two plays to score from there as Swick’s four-yard plunge put the Falcons ahead by a 7-0 margin following Beau Scarfpin’s extra point with 8:54 to play in the third quarter.Beginning its initial second half drive at its own 33, Northwest put together an eight-play drive that saw Hodge and Nichols combine for 13 yards rushing on the first two carries of the drive, then move up into Minford territory following a facemask that created a third-and-three.But the following two plays weren’t optimal for the Mohawks.Nichols was dropped behind the line of scrimmage for a one-yard loss on a run, and on fourth-and-four, Malachi McNutt’s pass was picked off by Minford senior safety Elijah Conley after being tipped in the air twice. Conley returned the interception to the Northwest 45.The Falcon offense again needed just seven plays to cash in, as an 11-yard pass from Bailey to Donahoe on third-and-two and runs of 19 and six by McLau
