Felix Nmecha: United told what they must do to sign Dortmund star

Manchester United have remained calm in the transfer market so far, resisting the high asks from selling clubs. In contrast, Spurs have already sealed two deals that could push their transfer record higher within days, and Manchester City have agreed to break the British transfer record for their top target. All three moves involve midfielders, part of United’s plan to overhaul the engine room this summer, with the big deals likely to shape United’s strategies even as they stand firm against overpaying.
United are now reportedly turning their attention to Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, having made early inquiries about his availability this summer. The 25-year-old Germany international, known for his physicality and athleticism, progressed through Manchester City’s academy under Jason Wilcox. United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is said to be in close contact with Nmecha’s representatives. Dortmund, who have a history of large-scale sales over the past decade, are likely to hold firm, a stance that could be reinforced by events in England last week.
Dortmund are said to value Nmecha at around €120 million (approximately £103 million; $137 million). The 6’3” midfielder is under contract with Dortmund until 2030 at Signal Iduna Park. This valuation was discussed before Germany’s World Cup exit, after which Nmecha’s reputation temporarily dipped due to subpar performances in losses to Ecuador and Paraguay. While the figure suggested is high, sources connected to Dortmund indicate that City would need to pay more than £100 million to secure him. Now, INEOS faces a choice: either break their transfer record to land a player who fits the midfield profile they’re pursuing, or begin the season with an underprepared engine room.
