Florida flips one of nation’s top outfield prospects from Oklahoma

By admin — In News — July 3, 2026

Florida solidified its recruiting momentum Thursday by flipping Braylen Montgomery from the Oklahoma Sooners to the Gators, a move announced on his personal social media. The 6-foot-4, 213-pound outfielder from Walker, Louisiana, is regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2026 class. Perfect Game ranks him as the No. 231 overall draft prospect, while Prep Baseball ranks him No. 4 among players in Louisiana after he earned First Team All-State honors last season. Montgomery posted a .424 average with six homers, 29 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases during his 2025 junior year, according to GeauxPreps. In his sophomore year, he hit .373 with seven home runs, 38 RBIs and 19 steals in his varsity debut season.
According to his Perfect Game scouting report, Montgomery “stands out physically” with a big, strong frame and ample projection remaining. He possesses an impressive blend of speed and power potential, described as a “6.35 runner in the sixty” who moves smoothly to the ball in the outfield, fields cleanly, and delivers long, loose arm actions with accurate throws and carry. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a spread stance, a compact weight shift, and big bat speed with leverage, aiming to the middle of the field with power that should grow as he learns to turn the barrel.
Montgomery, a Louisiana native, signed with OU last fall but is currently in the process of being released from that agreement. He will join Florida with newly hired assistant coach Todd Butler, who previously served as OU’s recruiting coordinator and is also a Louisiana native, on the Orange and Blue staff.
