Mandatory Credit: William Purnell-Imagn ImagesFlorida Gators running back Jadan Baugh entered Saturday’s game against the Missouri Tigers as a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender. Unfortunately for him and the Gators, he didn’t exactly perform that way on Saturday. Now, he’s apologizing directly to his coach.Just a week after a lopsided win over Ole Miss thrust the Gators into the national conversation, Florida suffered a blowout 45-17 loss to Missouri in a game where Baugh had just 13 yards on 12 carries. Baugh is now vowing to play better going forward.‘I won’t let it happen again’Through Florida’s first four games of the season, Baugh looked like the best running back in the country. He had 600 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. Saturday’s game, however, was far from that performance. After gaining 12 yards on his first carry of the game, Baugh was totally shut down for the rest of the game, gaining just one yard across all 11 of his carries for the remainder of the game.It was not his best game, and he owned it, sending his head coach, Jon Sumrall, a text to take ownership for his performance.“I’m sorry, coach. I won’t let that happen again. I didn’t play my best,” Baugh texted Sumrall, according to ESPN.‘He owned it’While Baugh was far from the only reason the Gators lost the game on Saturday, Sumrall appreciated the gesture.“I think sometimes at the running back position, he’s created a lot of runs at times on his own,” Sumrall said Monday. “Sometimes, the offensive line has done great. Sometimes, perimeter blocking has been great. Sometimes, he’s made plays that weren’t even there. We didn’t do enough to help him as a team on Saturday in my opinion, and I don’t think he was his best either.“I love Jadan because he owned it and he’s ready to move forward.”The Gators will now have a chance to bounce back with a home game against South Carolina on Saturday. The post Florida running back apologizes to coach after disappointing game appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.
