PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Flyers (0-1-2) suffered their second consecutive overtime loss on Saturday, falling 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes (1-1-1) at Xfinity Mobile Arena.Sebastian Aho and Shayne Gostisbehere scored for the Hurricanes. Owen Tippett and Matvei Michkov scored for the Flyers. It was another sloppy effort in the early stages for the Flyers, but as the game went on, they cleaned it up. The effort was far from perfect, and there is still plenty to improve upon, but it was their best game from start to finish this season. Following a goal within the first 10 seconds of the game, Joseph Woll locked in and turned in another fantastic game for his new team. The Flyers held a lead for nearly 20 minutes, but a big-time power-play goal tied the game for the Hurricanes before it eventually went to overtime. However, the Hurricanes were able to sneak away with the win. Here’s how we got to the final score. After a puck was floating around in the offensive zone, Sebastian Aho (1) put a wrist shot past Joseph Woll from the top of the left-side faceoff circle, assisted by Andrei Svechnikov (2). That was telling of how the first 5 minutes of the game would go. The Flyers continued their trend of sloppy play in the defensive and neutral zones, and barely gave themselves an opportunity to get any sort of offense generated. Before the halfway mark in the first period, the Flyers got a gift. The Hurricanes were sloppy in the defensive zone with goalie Pyotr Kochetkov out of sorts in the crease. Philly was able to take advantage of the chaos when Trevor Zegras (1) found Owen Tippett (1) in the slot, who buried the game-tying goal. The Flyers then got a chance to grab the lead 12:21 into the period after Jesperi Kotkaniemi was called for holding on Rasmus Ristolainen. It did not last very long. The Flyers’ top unit could not even get set up, let alone any chances. Even shorthanded, the Hurricanes were able to get a better possession. Then, a Travis Konecny hooking penalty 1:10 into the power play ended Philly’s stint with the man-advantage. Carolina did not score on their power play thanks to a stick save by Woll. The Flyers did get one more chance on the power play before the period ended after Sebastian Aho was called for slashing. Philly’s man-advantage shot went better than the first, but they were unable to score before the period ended. That carried the remaining 54 seconds of the power play into the second period. It was a better, but still not great, first period for Philly, as they were outshot 13-6. Michkov Gives His Team the LeadThe final seconds of the power play were unsuccessful, and 5-on-5 resumed quickly in the second period. Philly was playing sloppily, but then again, so was Carolina. It was only a matter of time until
