Friday Night Lights are finally here, and East Central Indiana may just need high school football more than ever.Every player that takes the field on Friday will be playing for more than themselves and their teammates. They’ll be representing communities that are still reeling from the historic floods which have left seven dead statewide and thousands more displaced or without power. Each team will provide a beacon of hope and perseverance at a time when everyone could use a little extra. The Star Press will have extended game coverage of a local rivalry showdown between Delta and Muncie Central. The Eagles are mourning the loss of former teammate Matthew Morey, a recent Delta graduate who was one of the seven victims of the floods. Both teams have planned a pregame tribute to Morey, who scored a 58-yard touchdown in the matchup as a senior wide receiver a year ago. The Eagles will look to honor their fallen teammate by avenging last year’s 16-13 loss to the Bearcats, which snapped a six-game Delta winning streak in the rivalry.Elsewhere in the area, Blackford and Jay County will play the 52nd iteration of their rivalry at Delta due to field conditions at Blackford, where the Bruins will seek their first win over the Patriots since 2008. Both of the area’s 1A football teams will hold their home openers with Wes-Del hosting Tri-Central and Monroe Central hosting Union County. Everyone else is on the road — New Castle will play at Franklin County, Shenandoah will pay a visit to Bluffton, Winchester will travel to Centerville, and Yorktown will start its season at Anderson.Follow below for LIVE scores and updates from all the week 1 IHSAA football action across the Muncie area! Week 1 East Central Indiana high school football scores, updates
