Former Arizona golfer Tiger Christensen set for The Open Championship

   ​Three years ago, as an amateur, Tiger Christensen qualified for The Open Championship in England, but after two rounds of play he did not make the cut.Now a professional, Christensen is getting a second chance at professional golf’s oldest championship.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe former UA golfer will tee off at approximately 3:41 a.m. PT Thursday in the 154th edition of The Open Championship, also known as The British Open. This year’s edition is being played at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.The 22-year-old Christensen turned pro in November 2024, before completely his senior season at Arizona. Since then the German native has competed in the HotelPlanner Tour, the second-tier pro tour in Europe, along with a few events at the top-flight DP World Tour.At The Open, Christensen will tee off with American Eric Cole and Brit John Parry, who tied for 16th in last year’s tourney. That trio will tee off first in Friday’s second round, at 10:35 p.m. PT.Christensen spent parts of three seasons at Arizona from 2022-24 after beginning his career at Oklahoma State. In his time with the Wildcats he won two Pac-12 Golfer of the Week awards and finished in the top 10 in career scoring average (71.68). He was part of the UA’s NCAA Championships squad that finished 15th in 2024.The best performance by a Wildcat at The Open Championship came in 2014 when Jim Furyk finished fourth.
