​A second local group led by a former Florida Gators golfer has come forward with a plan to purchase and renovate Gainesville’s Ironwood Golf Course.The Track, a group led by former UF golfer Tyler Rucarean and his brother, Trace Rucarean, is presenting the vision of Ironwood as a “course the whole city grows up on.” The ownership group also includes Ben Chase, a local Gainesville attorney and former UF director of NIL strategy and Nick Gallo, the owner Gallo Car Wash, a homegrown Gainesville company with three locations across the area.Tylear Rucarean was a former UF golfer from 2005-07 and in 2002 was named the Gainesville Sun’s Golfer of the Year for his performance at Oak Hall School in Gainesville. Tyler and Trace Rucarean bring experience as owners and operators of Future Country Club, Gainesville’s private indoor golf clubs.“Our goal is to make this the coolest place Gainesville has ever seen, and the place Gainesville truly deserves,” Trace Rucarean said, “We came up on Gainesville golf, and Ironwood has been part of our game for years. We want to build the place we wish we’d grown up on and hand it to the next generation.”Last month, a local ownership group led by Adam Rappaport and David Pearson, presented a $1.1 million bid to Gainesville’s City Commission to purchase Ironwood from the City of Gainesville, which runs the 180-acre property adjacent to the Gainesville Regional Airport. Chase said The Track group is prepared to match that bid and spend more than $4 million for the purchase and renovation of the 18-hole, par-72 course.The city of Gainesville’s Ironwood Golf Course lost more than $300,000 last year and is on track for a similar loss this year. The Track Group’s plan has received a strong endorsement from Jeff Cardozo, who has managed the course for more than two decades.“For more than two decades, my focus has been on making Ironwood Golf Course a place that serves the entire community,” Cardozo said. “From growing junior golf and hosting countless charitable events to providing a welcoming course for golfers of all ages and skill levels, we worked hard to create something the east side of Gainesville could be proud of. “I’m grateful for everything we accomplished, and I believe the vision, passion, and resources of The Track Group willallow Ironwood to continue growing, serving the community, and reaching its full potential for many years to come.
