That’s especially true for members of the Big Blue Nation, considering the roller‑coaster summer Mark Pope has endured while navigating uncertain waters to fill out his 15‑man roster for the 2026–2027 season.A name that was high on Kentucky’s transfer radar just a few weeks ago has now committed to Rick Pitino and will suit up for St. John’s next season.Former Auburn Tigers standout Keyshawn Hall has reportedly pledged his allegiance to the Red Storm and will now — stop me if you’ve heard this one before — wait to see where his ultimate eligibility status lands.Hall was originally named and granted a fifth year of eligibility through the Ohio injunction, but that ruling no longer holds weight, leaving Hall and others guessing what their NCAA future might look like. He filled it up last year at Auburn pouring in nearly 20 points per game while shooting just under 38% from behind the arc. Assuming Hall can clear the same hurdles facing other fifth‑year hopefuls, adding Hall would be incredibly impactful and a much-needed addition for Coach Pitino’s squad. You may remember the unfortunate season‑ending injury to St. John’s star forward Donnie Freeman, another one-time Kentucky target.Hall would be a strong addition to any roster, but he becomes even more valuable to a group that’s already down a major piece months before the season begins.You can only assume Rick Pitino is operating like most head coaches at this point: secure the commitment now, then fight like hell on the back end to get your guy eligible.On Wednesday, Greg Sankey and the SEC issued a swift warning to any school that violates their newly introduced policy that provided some (kind of) clarity around eligibility standards. Other conferences will likely soon take their own stances, making the waters even murkier than they already are.
