Former Nole Nyqwan Murray Helps Pirates Clinch Playoff Berth

   ​The Orlando Pirates (9-6) defeated the San Antonio Gun Slingers (4-10) 55-54 at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, July 11.With the win, Orlando has clinched a spot in the IFL playoffs that will begin the weekend of July 31-August 2, 2026.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFormer Florida State wide receiver Nyqwan Murray had a big day, scoring three touchdowns in the first half of the game. Murray finished the game with six receptions for 76 yards. Murray was the first player ever signed to the Pirates organization.While at Florida State, Murray had 127 receptions for 1854 yards. Murray has had brief stints in the NFL and the CFL. In 2025, he was first-team All-IFL.Former Florida State quarterback James Blackman was a non-participant in the game. Blackman left Florida State as one of the top passers in school history.Former Florida State receiver Ja’hki Douglas played in the game but did not log any receptions or carries. While at Florida State, Douglas caught a pass in each of his final 30 games.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOrlando quarterback Paxton Delaurent had four passing touchdowns and one rushing score in the first half. San Antonio scored 20 points in the first quarter, and the Pirates responded by scoring 20 points in the second quarter. The half ended 34-32 with the Pirates having the edge.San Antonio came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Pirates 14-7 in the third quarter.San Antonio took a late lead in the fourth quarter with 39 seconds on the clock, but the Pirates responded with 24 seconds to take the lead with a Pooka Williams touchdown reception. A final Hail Mary attempt by San Antonio failed, and the Pirates won the game.The Pirates outrushed San Antonio with 134 yards to 19 yards and had 103 more yards in total offense. The Pirates averaged 6.7 yards per carry, versus 1.6 by San Antonio.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDeLaurent finished the game with seven touchdowns, five passing and two rushing. He had 20 completions for 239 yards. He had 20 carries for 36 yards.
