​West Virginia University assistant football coach and former North Fort Myers High star Noel Devine was arrested Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13, and charged with felony strangulation in Morgantown, West Virginia.Devine, 38, was arrested and booked at 12:45 p.m. on one charge of strangle, suffocate, or asphyxiate causing bodily injury or loss of consciousness, according to court records on the West Virginia Judiciary website. He was being held on a $40,000 bond as of Sunday night at the North Central Regional Jail in Mongolia County, according to court records.“Upon receiving information of the arrest, I have immediately and indefinitely put Noel Devine on leave from the Mountaineer football coaching staff,” Mountaineers head coach Rich Rodriguez said in a statement Sunday. “Any future decision on his status will be determined after more information becomes available.”Rodriguez was hired by West Virginia in December 2024 for his second stint as the Mountaineers’ head coach and he hired Devine, who played for him during his first stint, as an assistant running backs coach and offensive analyst in January 2025. Devine was on the sidelines Saturday for West Virginia’s 52-7 win over U.T. Martin.Devine, a five-star prospect finished his career at North Fort Myers with 6,846 career rushing yards, still the Lee County record, and 88 total touchdowns. Deveine’s best season came in 2006 when as a senior he rushed for 2,138 yards, scored 31 touchdowns and was named a U.S. Army All-American.
