You read that right. Former Ole Miss golfer Jackson Suber finished his opening round at the Open Championship in Southport England atop the leaderboard. After one round he sits at five under and ahead of guys like Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau and Jordan Spieth who have already finished their rounds. Many of the golfers that are finishing up are in no position to chase down Suber, with Pierceson Coody currently at four under through 15 having the best shot.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSuber finished the round with eight pars, three bogeys, six birdies and an eagle on 17.For his career, Suber’s best finish is a solo fourth in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson back in May. He has made 15 cuts so far in 2026 with nine top-25 finishes. He currently sits just north of $2 million in earnings on the PGA and if the young man holds on for his first PGA Tour victory, he would more than double his career earnings as the top prize this weekend is $3.2 million.
