Rhian Wilkinson believes Wales’ free-agent internationals showcased their talents to potential clubs by helping her side top their Women’s World Cup qualifying group. Gemma Evans, Hannah Cain and Elise Hughes all played against Montenegro and the Czech Republic while their club futures remained unclear. It has since been reported that defender Evans is set to join Newcastle United after leaving Liverpool, though there is still no update on the club futures of either Cain or fellow forward Hughes. “I think they’ve done everything they can to put themselves in the shop window,” said Wales head coach Wilkinson. Cain, 27, netted her sixth goal in six World Cup qualifiers in Montenegro, just three days after confirming she is leaving Leicester City this summer following their relegation from the Women’s Super League. Fellow striker Hughes, 25, announced shortly before Tuesday’s vital victory over the Czechs that she is leaving Crystal Palace after helping them earn promotion to the WSL.
