The Arizona Wildcat football season has officially started, with the ’Cats knocking off the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 35-7 this past Saturday. Arizona now turns its attention to BYU as they head to Provo to take on the Cougars. On the recruiting front, the Wildcats currently have 18 members of the 2027 class. The ‘Cats had all 18 of their committed prospects in action this past weekend. Let’s delve into our second edition of this season’s Friday Night Lights!Caden Jones, QB, Crean Lutheran (CA) SaintsLast Game: Lost 37-29 to JSerra Catholic LionsTeam Record: 2-1Game Stats: 19-for-26, 247 yds, 2 TD; 4 car, 15 ydsSeason Stats: 60-for-84, 763 yds, 7 TD; 8 car, 43 yds, 1 TDNotes: Jones had another very good game, even though the Saints didn’t come out on top. He really can make any throw at any level, and can do it while on the run with accuracy. Enjoy his highlights below.View LinkAhzan Bacote, DL, Cornerstone Christian (TX) WarriorsLast Game: Won 51-14 against Center RoughridersTeam Record: 2-1Game Stats: N/ASeason Stats: 8 tackles, 3 TFL, 1.5 sacksNotes: I wasn’t able to find any stats or film of Bacote from the weekend. Below are some very quick highlights of Bacote from last week against IMG Academy.View LinkLogan Draper, DL, Westfield (TX) MustangsLast Game: Lost 3-0 to Randle LionsTeam Record: 1-1Game Stats: 5 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 3 QB HurriesSeason Stats: 8 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 3 QB HurriesNotes: Draper had another solid game statistically. His stance is interesting but it allows him to get initial leverage against the o-line. His first step seems a little slow, but he recovers quickly in order to attack the ball carrier.View LinkDavon Smith, LB, Westfield (TX) MustangsLast Game: Lost 3-0 to Randle LionsTeam Record: 1-1Game Stats: 11 tackles, 2 TFLSeason Stats: 21 tackles, 2 TFLNotes: Smith had another good game to start his senior campaign. He seems to be around the ball most of the time and is not afraid of contact. He is pretty light on his feet and shows above average lateral movement to flow with the play’s development.View LinkBraylen Ross, WR, Crean Lutheran (CA) SaintsLast Game: Lost 37-29 to JSerra Catholic LionsTeam Record: 2-1Game Stats: 9 rec, 126 ydsSeason Stats: 24 rec, 347 yds, 2 TDNotes: Ross had another very productive game. Flipping on Jones’s highlights, at the 1:23 mark, Ross did a fantastic job high-pointing a contested ball on the sideline and came down with the catch. Very impsressive from the big receiver.Dieter Lotulelei, Edge, West (UT) PanthersLast Game: Won 54-6 against Hunter WolverinesTeam Record: 4-0Game Stats: 5 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 QB HurrySeason Stats: 18 tackles, 11 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 12 QB Hurries, 1 FRNotes: I really wish there were updated highlights of Lotulelei every week, however, that is not the world we live in. Even so, he has been racking up the negative plays. Very interested to see how many TFLs and sacks he finishes up the season with.Rome Ewell, LB, Springtown (TX) Porcup
