FSU ‘trending’ for intriguing transfer pitcher

Link Jarrett and the Florida State baseball program have been active in the transfer portal, securing two pitchers over the last two days and now pursuing a third. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the Seminoles are “trending to land” former Cal Golden Bear Otto Espinoza. Espinoza arrives after a promising freshman season at California, where he appeared in 15 games and made six starts. He finished 2-3 with a 3.69 ERA over 46 1/3 innings, while holding opponents to a .212 batting average. Across 27 runs allowed (19 earned) on 35 hits and 27 walks, he recorded 49 strikeouts. The right-hander did an effective job limiting extra-base power, yielding just 12 extra-base hits in 201 plate appearances, which included four homers. His standout performance came in a standout start against San Diego, when he struck out 10 over seven innings, permitting only one run on three hits and two walks. Espinoza hails from Huntington Beach, California, stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 180 pounds, and he has four seasons of eligibility remaining.
If the transfer is completed, Espinoza would be the fourth pitcher Jarrett and pitching coach Micah Posey have landed from the portal this offseason. They have already added Cayden Suchy, Sebastian Lippman, Alex Philpott, and Isaiah Sheyter. The program has also secured contributions from outfielder Ty Peeples and designated hitter Jackson McKenzie.
