Christian Fuchs has resigned as manager of Newport County after seven months in charge of the League Two club. The former Austria defender, who joined the Exiles last November to replace the sacked David Hughes, steps down just eight weeks after steering County away from relegation on the final day of the previous season. At 40, he leaves on the eve of pre-season, leaving Newport to search for their fourth boss in just over two years.
Newport County confirmed the decision, thanking Fuchs for his hard work, commitment, and professionalism and wishing him success in the future. As the squad prepares for pre-season, players are set to return on Monday, with the 2026-27 campaign launching with a Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon the weekend of 8 August, followed by a League Two opener versus Rochdale a week later.
The Exiles have made six signings for the new campaign—Harrison Biggins, Christian Doidge, Cameron Norman, Dan Sassi, Shaquille Gwengwe, and Yahya Bamba—but have also lost key players Bobby Kamwa and Matt Baker as their contracts expired. Chairman Huw Jenkins, who had been planning for the season under Fuchs, must now pursue a fourth manager under his stewardship after the exits of Graham Coughlan, Nelson Jardim, and Hughes, all in the space of a few summers.
This marks the third consecutive summer with a managerial change at Rodney Parade, highlighting Newport County’s ongoing struggle to stabilize after recent setbacks.
