Future Hall of Famer Von Miller causes new Cowboys buzz with cryptic post

The buzz is back. Von Miller, the eight-time Pro Bowler who sits just outside the NFL’s all-time top 10 in sacks, seems to be fanning the flames Cowboys fans have kept warm for years. A cryptic social media post showing Miller in a Cowboys uniform has some observers reading it as a hint that the Texas native could be on the verge of joining Dallas for the 2026 season—if not merely signaling a desire to do so.
Miller, now 37, spent last season with Washington but recently told a podcast that he “picked the wrong team,” referring to his decision not to sign with Seattle, the eventual Super Bowl champions. With multiple rings already to his name, Miller still appears hungry for more. He even pushed for a return to Denver as recently as May, hoping to reunite with the franchise where he spent the first decade of his career.
Wednesday’s post, which connected him to the Cowboys in fans’ eyes once again, has only intensified the chatter. Miller has long been associated with Dallas, dating back to previous links and even staying close to the team’s orbit. He has friends among Cowboys alumni and presentees, with sightings at AT&T Stadium watching World Cup games alongside Dez Bryant and Emmitt Smith. The Dallas area remains home for him, and he still operates a poultry farm in nearby DeSoto, reinforcing his ties to the region.
As for how he might fit into today’s Cowboys defense, the fit raises several compelling points. Christian Parker is building a new defensive scheme, and having a veteran leader like Miller could be invaluable as Parker implements his first-year plan. The two did cross paths briefly in Denver before Miller was traded to the Rams in 2021, a reminder that their professional lanes have intersected before. Dallas’ current transition to a 3-4 defense could benefit from additional experience on the edge, particularly as they recalibrate their OL responsibilities.
The Cowboys currently feature Rashan Gary among their edge players, with Donovan Ezeiruaku, James Houston, Sam Williams, and rookie Malachi Lawrence competing for roles. In the mix are Marist Liufau, Charles Snowden, Tyrus Wheat, and Isaiah Land, all of whom will vie for snaps in a rotating rotation. Miller’s presence would immediately elevate the competition and could push younger players to step forward. With nine sacks last season in 2025, achieved in just 420 defensive snaps, Miller showed he can produce without extending himself in a full-time workload. That efficiency is precisely what Dallas might value in a 3-4 arrangement that emphasizes smart pressure and disciplined gap control.
Miller’s career tally sits at 138.5 sacks, placing him in a tie with former Cowboy and Bronco DeMarcus Ware for 13th on the all-time list. Three more sacks would thrust him into the NFL’s top 10, and climbing to as high as No. 6 is not beyond the realm of possibility given he remains active in his 16th season. Those potential milestones add to the appeal for a Cowboys defense that could use a veteran presence to anchor the unit as they rebuilt a defense designed to complement their prolific offense.
For years, the Cowboys and Miller have teased a potential partnership. The latest social-media signal, coupled with Dallas’ ongoing quest to bolster the defense around a high-powered offense, raises the possibility that this time could be different. With a renewed sense of optimism surrounding Dallas’ 2026 roster and a clarion need to elevate the defense to meet the challenge posed by elite offenses, Miller’s name sits near the top of the list when fans and analysts discuss plausible add-ons. If there were ever a moment for Miller to suit up for his hometown team, this would be it—a final chance to chase another title while donning the star in front of a supportive community that has long imagined him in that exact role.
