George Pickens' Dallas Cowboys future in doubt

Former Georgia Bulldogs star wide receiver George Pickens is widely regarded as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL after having a breakout season. The route runner will enter the 2026 season on the franchise tag after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, and Pickens will look to pick up right where he left off in 2025.
Pickens had the best year of his NFL career throughout his first season in Dallas. The star receiver recorded 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025, but the Cowboys were unable to reach an agreement on a long-term deal with Pickens despite his success in his first year with the team. Pickens will receive $27.298 million in 2026, but the route runner wants a long term deal and will warrant a major payday next offseason if he continues to play at an elite level this year.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently shared his thoughts on Pickens’ contract situation with the Cowboys, as the analyst believes a long-term deal will not come to light until next year.
“I don’t expect a long term deal for George Pickens this year,” Rapoport said. “And I don’t believe that the Dallas Cowboys are gonna trade him.”
Pickens is credited with 4,270 yards and 21 total touchdowns over the first four years of his NFL career. The former Bulldog was a superstar throughout his time at Georgia, and Pickens was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a result.
The pass catcher should remain a crucial component in the Cowboys’ offense during the 2026 season. Pickens will receive a major payday in 2027 should he continue to shine in Dallas, but his future with the Cowboys following the conclusion of the 2026 season remains unknown.
