There are several former Georgia Bulldogs who are emerging as stars in the NFL, and when Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox highlighted a standout from each team he views as the “most promising building block,” three Bulldogs appeared on his list. One of them is outside linebacker Jalon Walker of the Atlanta Falcons, who joins Detroit Lions offensive lineman Tate Ratledge among Knox’s selections. Walker, selected No. 15 in the 2025 NFL draft, had a productive rookie season with Atlanta, posting 36 tackles, 5 1/2 sacks, nine quarterback hits, and 29 total pressures, according to Pro Football Focus (premium subscription required). His overall evaluation came in at a solid 71.6 PFF grade, with run defense reaching as high as an 81.3, marked by his strongest performance against the New England Patriots in Week 9 when he logged four pressures and two sacks.
With Kaden Elliss moving on to the New Orleans Saints, Walker is expected to take on a larger share of responsibilities. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich indicated as much, telling Daniel Flick of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “We’re going to ask him to do a lot. He is one of those guys that’s going to be in a similar role to what Kaden had last year.” Before his NFL ascent, Walker was a cornerstone of Georgia’s formidable front seven in the early 2020s. The former four-star recruit from Salisbury, North Carolina, committed to Georgia in 2021. In his first season with the Bulldogs, he contributed as a reserve linebacker to a national championship run.
Walker continued to develop into one of Georgia’s premier pass-rushers during the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. In 2023, he totaled 20 tackles, 5 1/2 tackles for loss, and five sacks. The following year, he tallied 60 tackles, 10 1/2 TFLs, and six-and-a-half sacks, underscoring his rapid progression and impact on the field. His standout 2024 season earned him the Dick Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker, and he drew notable comparisons to Micah Parsons throughout the year. Opting to declare for the NFL draft despite having another year of eligibility, Walker was selected by the Falcons in the first round. He’s now focused on building an enduring NFL career, aiming to replicate the success he enjoyed at Georgia as Atlanta strives to return to the postseason picture.
For Georgia fans and NFL followers alike, Walker’s trajectory represents a compelling bridge between the program’s storied past and its current influence on the professional level. His blend of versatility, pass-rush capability, and developing run-defense acumen positions him to become a key contributor for the Falcons as they push to return to playoff contention.
