The German Football Federation (DFB) confirmed on Wednesday that it has not signed a letter of support for the re-election of FIFA president Gianni Infantino.Confirming a report from the Bild newspaper, the DFB said that “further steps will be discussed among the DFB leadership.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBild said that FIFA director Elkhan Mammadov of Azerbaijan had lobbied for Infantino’s re-election among the 16 European members playing at the World Cup, which ends on Sunday.Infantino is seeking a third and final full term until 2031 next year at the FIFA congress in Morocco. He has been FIFA president since 2016.The DFB did not vote in favour of Infantino at the last election in 2023, where he won by acclamation. The relationship has improved since but DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has been accused of being not critical enough towards the FIFA boss by German media.Infantino has come under fire at the World Cup, most notably over the Folarin Balogun affair. The United States forward had a red card ban suspended by FIFA after US President Donald Trump asked Infantino for a review of the case.
