​In a widely expected move, the Giants on Tuesday announced that once-elite wide receiver Odell Beckham will wear No. 13 with them this season. So he is back in his old familiar number from his starring days in East Rutherford (2014-18), after wearing No. 3 this summer while earning on a spot on coach John Harbaugh’s first roster. Jalin Hyatt — a disappointing 2023 third-round draft pick — had been in No. 13. The Giants cut Hyatt over the weekend and then brought him back on the practice squad. They yanked his number away in the process. As the nostalgia-loving Giants no doubt prepare to cash in on Beckham’s return — by selling plenty of those old-turned-new-again No. 13 jerseys — questions linger about whether Beckham can still produce in the NFL. He certainly believes he can, for what that’s worth (maybe at least something). “I feel confident in my ability,” Beckham said Monday. “Whatever it is that I need to provide, I’m looking to do that — and more. I’ve never shied away from competition. I feel that I can produce. I know that’s what I want to do. Now it’s about putting the work in to be able to do that.”Still, you have to wonder how much Beckham actually has left at this point in his injury-plagued career. He turns 34 in November. He was out of the NFL in 2022 and 2025. And he accomplished little in 2023 and 2024.The Giants head into Harbaugh’s first season — when they will use a run-heavy offense — with just five receivers on the active roster.
